What is Salsa Dancing?

Salsa is much more than just a dance style – it's a way of life. Originally emerging in New York in the 1970s, Salsa has deep roots in Afro-Caribbean culture and is heavily influenced by Latin American rhythms. The captivating rhythms and dynamic movements make Salsa one of the most popular dance styles worldwide.

How to Dance Salsa

Dancing Salsa requires passion, a sense of rhythm, and a bit of practice. Salsa is fundamentally danced in pairs, often described as a dialogue between the partners. The man leads while the woman follows, but both partners are actively involved and need to be in sync.

Basic Steps of Salsa

  1. Basic Step:

    • Start with your feet together.
    • Step forward with your left foot.
    • Shift your weight onto your right foot.
    • Bring your left foot back to the starting position.
    • Step backward with your right foot.
    • Shift your weight onto your left foot.
    • Bring your right foot back to the starting position.
  2. Side Step:

    • Start with your feet together.
    • Step to the side with your left foot.
    • Shift your weight onto your right foot.
    • Bring your left foot back to the starting position.
    • Step to the side with your right foot.
    • Shift your weight onto your left foot.
    • Bring your right foot back to the starting position.

These steps form the foundation upon which you can build more complex moves and turns.
